How to look after and store your jewellery

Frequent careful cleaning is recommended to keep your Jewellery looking its best.

One of the best and simplest ways to keep your jewellery clean and top condition is with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild washing up liquid gently massaged over the item requiring cleaning. Then rinse and gently dry off with a soft cloth

Chemical Jewellery cleaners are available, but read the label carefully, and if in doubt, do not use. In some situations Jewellery and gemstones can be affected with some cleaners.

Tarnishing of jewellery can be prevented by excluding air and storing it in a resealable plastic bag with anti tarnish paper. However, it is advisable that items with gemstones are stored in a fabric bag.

Should tarnishing occur, if available, a Jewellery Polishing Cloth can be used lightly to restore lustre. Do not rub and press too hard when polishing, in particularly where there is, for example gold fill or the item being cleaned is plated.

When wearing your jewellery protect it from sharp blows and chemicals. When doing day to day tasks, such as gardening, cleaning, or strenuous activities, it is best to remove jewellery. It is also recommended that Jewellery is removed prior to going swimming, as chlorine and salt water can cause damage.

Apply cosmetics before putting on your jewellery, as some contain chemicals that may affect jewellery. In addition, be conscious when spraying perfumes using soaps, as these can also tarnish jewellery.

After wearing your Jewellery it is always recommended to gently wipe it with a cotton cloth. This will clean off any residual perspiration, skin oils and make up.

So your jewellery does not scratch store it separately, surrounded in a cloth bag.
